SKFC are delighted to announce a partnership between ourselves and Dragon Football Academy to deliver a scholarship programme for footballers aged 16-19 from SK and beyond. This exciting opportunity is perfect for those wishing to follow a football/sport-based pathway into university or employment.
The scholarship programme will take place at both Reddish North End’s Mike Doyle Centre and the Armitage Centre. The programme is a unique environment in which players get to train, play and learn all in one action-packed course.
With links to both the English and Welsh Football Associations, UCFB (based at the Etihad), leagues such as the Welsh Premier League, various education and training providers and countless professional and semi-pro clubs, the programme has magnificent exit doors for its learners. What’s more, the scholarship programme doesn’t just offer learners education in playing the game, there are various other roles within football too. Ultimately, of course, it’s everyone’s dream to make a living from playing the beautiful game and while lots of players go on to sign for clubs, the DFA scholarship recognises that not everyone can make a full time living from playing – therefore learning to coach, scout and analyse the game, among much more, is a real benefit of the programme.
Learners progress from the scholarship with a BTEC L2/3 in sports performance (equivalent to A-levels) and go on to careers as footballers, football and sports coaches, physiotherapists, personal trainers, scouts and match analysts.
So, as well as the qualification, what do students get from the course – why choose this course? With opportunities to work and study abroad, pathways into work and higher education, experienced teachers, lots of work experience opportunities, highly qualified & experienced coaches, one to one training, strength and conditioning coaching, access to a gym and bursaries for travelling… not to mention the chance to play abroad and at facilities such as the Etihad Campus, Blackburn Rovers and St. George’s Park (to name a few) – it’s a no-brainer for many!
A typical timetable at DFA looks like this:
